- Are railings required by the Ontario Building Code?
- Yes — the OBC requires guards on any surface 600 mm (about 2 ft) or more above grade. Railing height must be at least 1,070 mm for most residential applications.
- What railing material is best for outdoor use in Toronto?
- Aluminum is the most popular choice — it's powder-coated for weather resistance, never rusts, and requires virtually no maintenance. Glass is excellent for views. Cedar is beautiful but requires periodic refinishing.
